Cell Phones for Soldiers

Ballantyne, NC – Mark Antonich of Ameriprise Financial heads up an on-going, year-round effort to support our troops by collecting used cell phones for Cell Phones for Soldiers. Residents of Ballantyne, Ballantyne Corporate Park and nearby towns can donate used cell phones by bringing them to Mark’s office at Ameriprise Financial (Ballantyne One Building, 15720 John J. Delaney Drive, Suite 300).

Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization started in 2004 by 12- and 13-year-old siblings Robbie and Brittany Bergquist with just $21 of their own money. It raises funds through the collection of used cell phones, which are then refurbished or recycled. Each year, more than 130 million cell phones are decommissioned in the U.S. alone. To date, Cell Phones for Soldiers has collected more than 7.5 million phones and provided military personnel with more than 1 million of pre-paid calling cards and 60 million minutes of calling time to soldiers overseas.

“With more than 150,000 troops serving overseas and away from their families, this is an opportunity to help our military men and women, and keep toxic wastes out of our landfills. We are proud to show support for U.S. soldiers and contribute to a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers,” says Antonich.
