The Morrison YMCA in Ballantyne debuted its new Teaching Kitchen on Saturday morning. According to Michelle Miller with the YMCA the Teaching Kitchen will be hosting cooking classes in partnership with Earth Fare beginning on October 20 featuring Pumpkin Favorites just in time for the upcoming holiday season. The YMCA’s vision for this program is designed to create a fun, warm, community centered environment that is based on the education and appreciation of fresh whole foods.
The YMCA’s approach to meeting this vision is to create a hands on atmosphere where the Morrison Family YMCA and the community can participate in the preparation of nourishing foods for their entire family. The Teaching Kitchen can also serve as a catalyst for local farmers to meet YMCA members as an act of community and sustainability. The Teaching Kitchen is part of the Morrison Family YMCA’s approach to overall health and wellness. Along with exposure to culinary experts and trained YMCA staff, the Morrison Family YMCA members have access to a registered dietitian, medical services and wellness programs through the Carolinas Health Care System.
Upcoming classes to include fall soups, holiday entertaining and healthy eating.
