Ballantyne, NC – Ballantyne Corporate Park held its first Earth Day event on Thursday, April 22 at its Brixham Green Tent and partnered with Clean Air Works! to host a gas cap check on Friday, April 23.

At the Earth Day celebration, Cintas shredded 1,171 pounds of paper and eCycle Secure recycled more than 3,300 pounds (1.7 tons) of computers and electronics. Clean Air Works! checked 99 gas caps throughout the Corporate Park and replaced eight gas caps; this effort prevented 1,600 pounds of evaporative emissions from being released into the atmosphere.

“It was great to see participation and interest from The Corporate Park at our first Earth Day event,” said Tom Pizzo, President, Bissell Property Services. “Activities such as this represent our commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives, and we look forward to further developing our efforts throughout the remainder of this year and into 2011.”

Other Earth Day participating organizations included Z730-AM, Chick-fil-A, Rita’s, McLeod Farms, Carolina Bicycle Co., General Motors, Courtyard Marriott Ballantyne, Staybridge Suites Ballantyne, Bissell Land Management and Bissell Property Services.

The Union County Christmas Bureau Needs Help From Our Community.

Remember what it was like as a child to wake up Christmas morning and to dash out of bed to see what Santa had left the night before? Remember the excitement of it all? Do you remember what it was like to be the parent creating those wonderful memories for your children? If so, then here is how you can help create that same feeling for others.

The Union County Christmas Bureau needs our help this holiday season. Needs have skyrocketed due to the faltering economy and donations have decreased. So far this year, the Christmas Bureau has already taken in more than 1,500 applications for families in need of help. The applications will continue to be accepted until December 4. More than 4,000 children in Union County are a part of this group of growing families in need.

The Christmas Bureau typically only accepts about 2,000 applications a year, but the need is expected to rise well beyond that number. There are several programs available to those that would like to help. No matter how big or small a contribution, you can make a difference this holiday season to the families and children faced with hardships.

If you are a local business you can sponsor an angel tree or adopt a family.

The Christmas Bureau will also accept donations of lightly used toys, new toys and coats. Monetary donations will help provide food for the holidays.

Chick-Fil-A of Monroe is proud to co-sponsor this effort with The Scoop Network and will serve as a donation site for toys, coats and food. Donations can be dropped off at the two Chick-Fil-A locations in Monroe on Highway 74 and in Monroe Crossing,”

Our Adopted Family

The family that we are adopting is a single mother with three young children. She was recently laid off from a local bank and her home is currently in foreclosure. She and her children are Union County residents that need our help. If you would like specifics as to what the children want and the clothing sizes please see the list below.

Mom: Shirt size – medium, Pants – 10, Shoe – 10, only request is for household items.

Boy Age 5: Clothing size 4T, shoe size 10, toy request – toddler bed, educational toys, educational books age 3, tricycle and pull ups.

Boy Age 6: Clothing size 6, shoe size 2, toy request – bike, hockey table, transformers, writing desk, educational toys.

Girl Age 12: Clothing size – Jrs. size 3, shirt size – medium, shoe size 9, other request – skateboard, sneakers, age appropriate room decor and books, MP3 player, and clothing.
